The authors, who commisssioned this piece, wanted a cover for their poetry compilation that was recognizably Alaskan and also a little campy, eye-catching, and fun. The mountain in the top of the cover illustration is patterned after Denali, the trees are spindly Alaska spruce, and the flowers are Alaskan fireweed.
